Newsletter - Autumn 2019
November has arrived, the shorter days are restricting the amount of time we have to fish, and week six of “Strictly” is causing eruptions at the BBC.
The 2019 season seems to have been very “up and down”, with some rather spectacular catches, and some very difficult periods, especially for the bank anglers. Still it would not be such fun if it was always easy.
The season ends on Saturday November 30th, so another couple of weeks left, if the weather holds, we may be in for a bumper end to the season.
Committee member wanted
One of our committee members will be standing down, so if any of you would like to join the committee (honest, it's not a difficult job), please advise the secretary at the start of the AGM.
Recent matches.
The Autumn bank Pairs.
The Autumn Bank Pairs match (Draycote Shield) took place on Sunday 15th September, but was only fished by 4 members (2pairs). The fishing was difficult but Richard Hanlon and Will Hunt managed a creditable 4 fish for 10lb.
The Boat pairs
6 pairs fished this match (one of the best turnouts we have had for a long time), and all boats weighed in, with the top two catching over 19lb of fish.
The match turned out to be a real family affair, with Richard and Michael Hanlon weighing in 19lb 13oz for first place, and brother John partnering Will Hunt for second place.
The winter programme
I hope you will all join us for the winter meetings. We still have to finalize all of the speakers as yet, but we hope to confirm them at the AGM.
November 12th AGM and time to pay your subscriptions
Fly tying from a couple of the members
December 10h Speaker to be confirmed
January 14th Hopefully a talk by Peter Hollingsworth of Sports quest on his latest two trips.
February 11th Speaker to be confirmed
March 10th Presentation evening with buffet, and an auction of fishing tackle, etc.
We are finding it more and more difficult to book interesting speakers. If you can think of
anyone that would be suitable, please advise one of the committee members.
Big fish
Don't forget, if you have caught a big fish (brown or rainbow) or a heavy limit, and want to
enter them for one of the cups, please ensure you enter the competition by advising any committee member
